Waking up in a time that has long gone by is as confusing as it is terrifying. The latter especially rings true when Gimli realizes that he is going to meet people he has mourned for decades... and that he might have come here alone. Also, what if - what if he cannot change all the wrongs that happened the last time?

Bilbo is a (mostly) reformed burglar and a guide with peculiar gifts. When Gandalf arrives with a proposition involving 13 dwarves, a dragon, and a resurrection of those burglary skills, of course he's going to say no. Well, maybe not, but he's definitely not going to get involved with any of this sentinel/guide bonding business. Okay, at least for sure he'll keep a lid on his own emotions, he has every kind of practice with that. Dammit.
