Izuku Midoriya is unlucky, to say the least and life hasn't exactly been kind. Things weren't so bad in the beginning, but once he was diagnosed quirkless, well, it all went to shit. Everyone grew to hate him, even his best friend and own father. Was it really that impossible to become a hero without a quirk? It doesn't really matter because to Izuku, the term hero is flexible. He'll be his own hero because he's learnt from his own experience, people are selfish and the only one he can rely on is himself. Left alone to fend for himself in the world, Izuku goes out to change things on his own terms, despite his methods being slightly illegal. Keyword, slightly. It's only illegal if he gets caught, right?

All his life, nobody truly believed in Midoriya Izuku's dream of being a Hero. Not his mother, his childhood friend, his classmates or teachers...not even the Number One Hero believes in him. What is a Quirkless boy to do? Show the world it's wrong, that's what. Finally, after years of no one believing him, there was one man who did. After All Might left Izuku on a roof with the answer of 'no', one man who was not a Hero finally told the boy, "I believe you can become a Hero." Izuku wants to prove the man right. "You saved my life," Todoroki says. Izuku freezes. Then he looks up. Todoroki Shouto is staring at him, his eyes calm but wide, dust and soot all over his face. His perfect, handsome face. He's more beautiful in person than Izuku could have imagined. "You just saved all of us," Todoroki says again. "What's your name?" "M-Midoriya," Izuku chokes out. "Midoriya Izuku." Todoroki nods. "Midoriya. Thank you." -- Midoriya Izuku is a university sophomore, a fanboy, quirkless. On the list of things he is not: a hero. That's why he's more surprised than anyone when he rescues Todoroki Shouto, his favorite pro hero, from a deadly villain attack. His actions fling him into the media spotlight, grabbing the attention of the entire country, including Todoroki himself. But Todoroki actually wants to get to know him past the headlines. Izuku finds himself living a story straight out of a fairy tale, one where the mysterious, handsome prince is played by the real-life superhero he has always admired. But Izuku is convinced he's the ugly duckling, not the swan; could he ever be remarkable enough to get his happily ever after?

When his mother dies, Aizawa Shouta takes his brother Izuku to live with him. However, between dealing with the grief and Izuku starting at UA, they don't have much time to spend with their secret family... ...who decide to invade on the third day of school. Or: Inko dies, Aizawa and Izuku are brothers (and related to half of the League), Class 1-A finds out about the first half and Tenko is VERY protective of his younger brother.

Katsuki Bakugou's obsession with Icyhot starts - like all the fucking horrible heel realisations in his life do - with the shitty nerd. And Izuku - Izuku is just trying to work things out as they go along. (Companion piece to "In Media Res".)
