A close rewatching/analysis of all 50 episodes of The Untamed, with heaps of images and around a 50-50 mix of angst and laughs. Major focuses of my analysis are: 1. Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian's relationship and how it drives their development as individuals, 2. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng's relationship and family dynamic, 3. trauma and how it affects people & relationships, and 4. how are all of these people so pretty, just look at them, they are all so fucking pretty, oh my god

One of the first questions that emerged as I pondered my own response to this episode was: why was I so much more affected by the scene in which the prison governor dies than I was by what I am sure was intended to be the emotional climax of the Eurus-experiments sequence, which is the scene in which Eurus demands that Sherlock kill either Mycroft or John? I’m going to talk about why. The short story is that the second scene is the moment where the whole production has to pay the piper for the cumulative effects of Moffat and Gatiss’s bad writing decisions.

I think that I may fairly make two postulata: 1) Whatever about series 5, this episode was designed to be the last episode of Sherlock that Moffat and Gatiss would make. 2) It should be.

I’m going to talk a little bit about “The Final Problem” and the vanishing of Harry Watson, the original Secret Sister.

"A Study In Pink” promised me John Watson’s lesbian sister. It promised a lot of things to a lot of its queer viewers. “The Lying Detective” gave us…something else. It wasn’t what I was hoping for. But it is what it is.
