Due to brutal complexities of war and harsh realpolitik William’s country, and therefore by extension William himself, is forced to work with people he despises. His little signal station is saddled with a German liaison officer and much as he dislikes it, he has to work with a man from a country that reviles his kind. The fates certainly have a twisted sense of humour. It’s bad that despite his nationality the young German officer turns out to be easy to like, on top of being easy on the eyes, but it’s even worse that feelings beyond friendliness start to creep upon William, riding roughshod over his logical side.
